Content Audit
Analyzed 200+ existing articles across news, food, and travel categories. Identified inconsistent typography, varying image treatments, and no clear visual hierarchy between content types.
Typography System
Selected a serif body face (Source Serif) for long-form readability and a sans display face for headlines. Built a 9-step type scale with responsive breakpoints, ensuring comfortable reading from 320px to 1920px.
Article Templates
Designed 4 article templates: long-form feature, photo essay, quick news, and food guide. Each has distinct hero treatments, pull quote styles, and image gallery patterns while sharing the same underlying grid.
Image Direction
Created a photography style guide: warm tones, natural light, human-centric composition. Designed consistent image treatments (aspect ratios, overlays, captions) that work across all content types.
Bilingual Content
Articles publish in both Khmer and English. Designed a language switcher that preserves scroll position and a typography system that handles both scripts gracefully with appropriate line heights and font fallbacks.
Reading Experience
Long-form articles needed to feel immersive without sacrificing scanability. Used a 65ch measure for body text, generous whitespace, drop caps for features, and sticky section navigation for articles over 2000 words.
